The Pharmaceutical Heritage Centre was established with an objective to cater information on the development of our health care system from the ancient system to the current era of pharmaceuticals; to acquire specimens, archival materials related to the subject; and to preserve, study, document, interpret and exhibit the collections in a systematic manner. This Centre is the only one of its kind in the country which showcases the history of pharmacy profession in India.

The Central Gallery (Lord Dhanwantari Gallery) showcases the mythological origins of traditional health care systems practiced in India.
Gallery on Traditional Health Care System includes ancient & medieval period health care practices like Ayurveda and Unani.
Gallery on Modern Pharmacy portrays Western medicine system developed during the colonial era, its pioneers in India and Pharmacopoeial History of India.
The Centre is actively engaged in continued enrichment of its collection which usually involves visit to the site as well as the procurement of the actual specimen, books/ equipments/ testing gadgets/ portraits/ artifacts of heritage value and related to the development of pharmaceutical/medical/biomedical sciences in any part of the country. The Centre is open for visitors from all sections of life including students to appraise them.
